The room arrangement is ridiculous. The bed is a mattress on the floor (a raised platform) with a glass bathroom and toilet inside the room. We had to stoop down to shower because the hose is not long enough and water goes all over the floor. The screen around our bath leaked, so clothes on the floor in the bedroom got wet. The stairs up to the room are dangerous, more like a wooden ladder. Everything else about the hotel was excelllent and it was spoiled by the room set-out.

Dear Valued Guest Thank you for your valued review and choosing to stay at hotel Neruda! First I must apologise about your room. This room is very specific and young couples usually really like the quirkiness of it however some might find it uncomfortable like yourself. Hotel Neruda is a listed building from 14th century and has unique style to allow guest experience living right under the Prague castle with amazing views. I wish you would have contacted reception or myself that your room is not up to your expectations and we would have been happy to provide you with another option such as room change, discount or other options for yourself. We always try to provide the best possible service to our customers. Please accept this apology and hopefully next time we can arrange a special treatment for your stay to your satisfaction. We had a standard room that ws totally adequate for our needs. It was cleaned regularly and fresh towels provided. Would have been nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The shower needed some maintenance also, but it still worked. Staff were excellent: multi-lingual, friendly and helpful. The walk up the hill to the hotel could be a bit of a treck, but worked off the coffee and cakes!

We arrived to be told that our room was not finished as the bathroom had to be completed, and we were sent to what turned out to be a far superior hotel - Best Western Kinsky for one night. Our remaining two nights were in what only could be classed as an unfinished room. The room had a small window overlooking the enclosed yard, and we were regularly disturbed by the noise of wheely bins been filled, or had the smoke from staff drift through the window. This is not a superior hotel. The room held the stench of glue and the window was too small to ventilate it. The bed made noise if you were just sitting on it. The base was a sheet of hardboard and creeked during the night continuely waking us up. We got a deal over the internet for 3 nights for the price of 2 which suited us fine, so we did not complain. But I would recommend that anyone staying in this hotel steers clear of Room 108 - which is inferior in a what is a mediocre hotel. When leaving the receptionist tried to charge us again for local taxes and it took a while to sort this out. But a great location. The Tunisian receptionist was so helpful and polite.

Prima hotel. Fijn ontbijt.

Stayed just one night in this hotel. Needed somewhere to stay in a hurry which was close to the US Embassy. Price and photos looked OK on internet so decided to book a room. Since there were 3 of us in our family we had to go for a triple room (with an extra bed). Turned out the room was just a standard with an extra foldable bed, so was very cramped for 3 - felt cheated by this. Would have gladly paid extra for the Superior. Big contrast in the helpfulness of staff. One of the Receptionists was very friendly and helpful, while others did not make us feel at home at all. Need some training in customer satisfaction here. Couldn't log on to wireless internet in the room. When asked, was told that it was only available for 10 Euros extra in the room, but was free in the lobby! Also, no PC with internet in the hotel. For a hotel of this quality, intenet should be free. Didn't want to pay extra foe internet so ended up sitting in the lobby with my laptop! Asked about using whirlpool tub, since this was well publicized on the internet site, and the thought of this was appealing after a long flight. However, the Receptionist told me it was booked up for the day, and I would have to book in advance to use it, which I didn't have time to do. Disappointing. Cost of 20 Euros for 1 hour is too much as well. All in all, I would say there are better hotels in prague to stay in. Would not return there.

Hotel Neruda: I can only say what a place of contrasts. The building itself is a fabulous mix of old and very modern, some amazing architectural work and overall I'd say very sympathetically achieved to a high standard. We stayed in a superior room and it was an unusual feature to find a pretty fabulous bath IN the bedroom, but it really did work and feel 'wow' by the time your brain took it in. We stayed for 5 nights with breakfast supposedly included- but never saw sight of any 'usual' breakfast items like croissants - and one day they even ran out of butter. The staff, in the main, are far too 'defensive' to do anything positive about the problems - again regarding breakfast we were told that we were too late on one occasion (10.30 we went down when the info in the room said it was on til 11!) but we went down as early as 9.45 one day and STILL no croissant! It seems they never replenish the buffet regardless of how long it goes on or who takes what. BAD planning. Reception staff ranged from excellent to downright rude. The words 'smile' and phrase 'customer is always right' don't seem to have reached most of them. Overall I'd say this is a good hotel in an amazing location - it was my first time and my partners second time in Prague and we both loved it. I'd probably stay here again but plan to eat breakfast elsewhere. If they could improve their customer service this would be a DEFINITE place to stay - right now I'd only say yeah probably. Location and accommodation standards a massive plus - breakfast and staff a big negative. Yeah only 1 English TV channel and maybe that could be an area they improve if they want more English-speaking guests to return (a movie channel maybe) but I really don't expect to be sitting in watching TV when there is so much to see.

The staff was polite and friendly and let me use the lobby computer when their internet wouldn't work with my mac. Breakfast was OK, not exceptional. My room was clean, quiet and had a great bathtub. It also was on the warm side and couldn't be regulated. I paid a bit more and took the 'superior' room and I am very glad I did. Great area, close walking distance to Charles Bridge and everything, but away from the tourist crowds. The rate for the room was very good and took the advice I had seen in reviews and paid in cash, in euros, to avoid 'misunderstandings' about the price of the room. I thought they overcharged for the sauna use. That didn't seem so four star as usually in the better hotels, it is all included. Also TV could have used another English channel other then CNN, but overall the room was great and I would recommend the hotel if you pay in cash and avoid the extras.

This is the second time that I've stayed at Hotel Neruda and I'd recommend it to anyone who wanted a bargain hotel in a great location in Prague. We've just stayed here for two nights and the service provided was very good. My only complaint was that the restaurant/bar was not available on our stay. When I stayed last year we enjoyed some good meals here and the bar was useful after a hard day slogging around Prague. Perhaps it was closed because the hotel wasn't that busy when we were there?! Last year I stayed in one of their superior rooms (the ones in the photos with orange chairs and stripy carpets) and it was excellent. This time we were given a different aesthetic room in what I took as their recent development of an adjacent property. The room was very large and clean and freshly decorated with good views out over Nerudova. My only complaint was that the bathroom was entirely enclosed with glass and faced the bedroom and (unless we closed the room's curtains) the properties on the other side of the street. Such 'openness' might be the European way, but we would have preferred a traditional bathroom that was separated with a good solid wall! There is a lot to be said for the small features too - as a bin in the room would be useful for tourists! We were far too English to complain about the glass bathroom and lack of a bin - and I'm sure that if anyone really took issue with it then the staff would relocate them to a more 'traditional' room. _ Customer from Sheffield, UK

24/10/2008 Just back from a 3 night stay in the Neruda Hotel. An excellent hotel, with lovely breakfast and very helpful staff. We booked a superior room and it was really beautiful and clean. The hotel is situated in a nice area below the castle, and is within easy walking distance to all the different places in Prague. We would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Very nice, beautiful hotel. We did though book a superior room and it was not the same as the one in the pictures on this site. A bit dissapointing as we had looked forward to that luxurious bathtub by the window.

The hotel was very nice and enjoyed out stay. Fab bath tub very luxurious. Hotel at the top of a very steep bank so would stay closer to old town next time. Staff were very helpful, note that when going down to breakfast you just help yourself including tea/coffee so dont wait for staff to seat you etc. Big bonus is 24hr reception too!

We had 3 really nice nights at the Hotle. The service was excellent, the staff were helpfull and very polite which gave the hotel a very polished atmosphere. Breakfast was exceptional and everywhere was clean and tidy. We loved the fact the Hotel was in the best part of town, right below the castle. It was quiet and lots of little bars for an evening drink or meal. I have already recommended it to my friends for when they visit Prague.

Definitely a 3-star hotel; you don't get much more than the room and ours did not have a bath. Also had to leave the windows open as room was very hot. Good location - only about 5/10 minutes up the hill to the castle or down to Charles Bridge. Check your bill carefully against the quote - I also only noticed after I left that I was charged twice for some mini-bar items and the tip was automatically included.

2008-03-06 21:18:47

Very nice hotel; the appearance of a quality four star hotel thought the organisation of a two star hotel. Breakfast was the worst ever, no cutlery or plates available for three mornings on the run. Only one member of staff servicing the whole of the hotel for breakfast. Appalling. Guests even resorted to making there own tea and coffee from behind the bar arae. Our room was not cleaned until 1730hrs each day, just when your getting ready to go out for the evening,- great timing, when you have been out all day. And to top it all off there was a staff fight in the hotel [right in front of us and other guests] on the last day with the police having to be called, - no apolgue - nothing. Great Location - Thought will not be returning to this hotel in a hurry.

Great hotel! It was such a relief to land there after many hours on the plane, and the very professional and helpful staff were able to give us our rooms slightly early. Thank goodness too for the air-conditioned room, as it was a very warm. Wonderfully comfortable beds and a good sleep, and the best breakfast of any place we stayed in Europe. Excellent location, quiet at night, and we so enjoyed a late evening walk up the hill to the castle to view the city lights. The little restaurant across the street served a very nice dinner. We definitely recommend this hotel!

We enjoyed our stay very much. It's a beautiful hotel. The buffet breakfast was the best of our trip. The staff followed up on our lost luggage, so we had no worries. The bed was great, very comfortable. The location was great, surprisingly quiet. If you are not a walker, you will need to take a taxi to get back at night (it's halfway up a fairly steep hill).

Super accomodation with very helpful staff. Breakfasts were supperb. Having the air-con was a definite plus given the soaring temperatures. Would have preferred tea/coffee making facilities rather than the mini-bar and the TV could do with another English speaking channel other than CNN news. Otherwise a good choice.
