SHORT DESCRIPTION:
The town of Terezín was founded at the end of the 18th century by Emperor Joseph II., originally as an ingenious system of the military fortresses for the protection of the Bohemian Kingdom. During the World War II, in 1940, the Gestapo took control of Terezín and the town was turned into a Jewish ghetto. To the outside it was presented by the Nazis as a model Jewish settlement, but in reality it was a concentration camp. Guide service and entrance fees included.
