Popocafepetl Melantrichova

Prague cafés under the name of Popocafepetl are famous student meeting points, but one of them turns into a loud club every weekend. The Popocafepetl club is housed in Melantrichova Street, a few steps away from Old Town Square, hidden very inventively in a passageway behind a Chinese Restaurant.
During the week, it is a nice place to spend an evening talking to friends and listening to music, but that has nothing to do with Friday and Saturday dance manias, with DJ spinning old rock, ska and reggae records and not people are more likely to dance on their chairs than to sit on them. The people are of all nationalities, cultures and ages, tourists can get the chance to party with Prague residents, mostly university students.
The prices are pretty low, considering the student clientele, a large beer costs around 30 crowns and the typical Popocafepetl drink is sangria in a large bowl with a lot of fruit and ice. Those who manage to dance till the morning will probably encounter a small shock when the rock music stops and the club fills with classical melody of “Vltava” by Czech composer Bedřich Smetana. That means that it’s 4 am, the closing hour.
