Deriving its history from Chinese form of theatre fun, the Prague Black Theatre has become a sensation with the tourists. According to a legend, the black theatre was first performed by a magician who tried to relive the vision of Chinese Emperor’s dead son. Connecting various forms of shadow theatres with marrionettes, dance and pantomimic scenes, big screen projections and scenic music, this non-verbal pleasure for the senses leaves the audiences amazed. With a little help of the black and white contrasts, the main actors, which are illusionists, jugglers and dancers, visualize their artistic fantasies.
This unusual form of theatre art has been part of Czech culture for over half a century, introduced to the Prague audiences by Jan Pajer, who established the Animato Theatre. Placed in the heart of Prague, at the Savarin Palace, its most famous show is a retro-vision of the 60s called “Yellow Submarine” paying tribute to the Beatles. Their other shows are also inspired by the hippie culture and rock music.
