Built in the 15th century during the reign of Vladislav II, Czech king from the Jagellon dynasty, it was one of many Prague’s entrances to the Old Town. Its late-Gothic style is unique and the tower gained a neo-Gothical renovation and decoration in the 19th century. At a height of 65 metres, the best-known Prague’s gate got its name in the 17th century when it was used to store gunpowder during the Thirty Year War. Today, it hosts a small exhibition about the tower’s history and is open for tourists.
