Municipal House

The most exquisite piece of Art Nouveau architecture on top of the shopping site Na Příkopě, it is a celebration of the Czechoslovakian First Republic and was built six years before it was established. The beautiful allegoric decoration pays tribute to the Czech nation and Slavic unity, headed by the famous mosaic above the main entrance by Karel Špillar, called “The Homage to Prague”. The Municipal House witnessed the establishment of the Czechoslovakian Republic in 1918, the turning point of Czech history. The building includes one of the most expensive cafés in town with a small garden, the largest concert hall in Prague – Smetana’s Hall, and a gallery focusing on modern art and photojournalism, hosting the most interesting exhibitions in the city.
