It was built in the 16th century Rudolfinian Prague and financed by Mordechai Maisel, a rich businessman who allegedly had close ties with the Emperor Rudolph II. Maisel was one of the most respected men of his time and also became mayor of the Jewish Town. Today, the synagogue hosts a permanent exhibition of Jewish religious objects and ornaments.
