Founded in 1140 by Czech king, Vladislav II, it was completed in the 18th century. The communist government later closed it and the politically persecuted most of its inhabitants. Today, it is both a monastery and a museum. A part of this Prague monastery is the Strahov Library, the largest collection of monastic writings in the world.
