Habsburgs and the Austrian Empire

The situation in Czech Kingdom was very unstable after the Hussite Revolution. A very young king, Ladislav, was left to rule the country. Due to his age and frequent illnesses, George of Podebrady took over the country. He was the first king to rule after a democratic election and had no aristocratic ancestors. His diplomatic abilities were well-known and he was called the Hussite king because he sympathized with the Hussite Revolution.
After his death, the Jagellon dynasty from Poland ruled a mere 45 years. When the last Jagellon died, Austrian Habsburgs offered the Czech nobility a great amount of money and practically bought the Czech crown for the next 492 years. The Habsburg era began and with it came the rise of Czech individualism and desperate thirst for freedom.
