Charles IV and the 14th century Prague
Charles IV is by far the most praised of all Czech kings. His intelligence, education, political abilities and persistence also made him the most powerful man of 14th century Europe. Thanks to this, the so-called Carlovingian Prague was the true melting pot of all cultures, most notably Jewish, and centre of the late-medieval Europe. In 1348, Charles IV established world-famous Charles University in Prague, and also started re-building the St Vitus rotunda into a monumental cathedral. USEFUL LINKS |
